Solutions

Represent the People

  • Government exists to serve the people- not the politicians and not special interests.
  • Open and transparent government will restore people’s faith in their local, state, and federal elected officials.
  • Require all elected officials to disclose when they or their immediate family members are employed in activities with organizations that receive public funds.
  • Require online and real-time reporting of all gifts legislators receive by lobbyists, using lobbyists’ registration fees to pay for the service.
  • Elected representatives should be a voice for the voters and never place their personal interests ahead of the people they represent.
  • The people in District 63 and Alabama should have a right to vote on matters affecting their deeply held personal convictions.

Create Jobs

  • Provide tax incentives and special financing for existing businesses to allow them to improve their infrastructure, thereby allowing them to better compete in a global market.
  • Promote Alabama’s small and local businesses as well as larger ones.
  • Invest in critical infrastructure to better serve businesses and growth.
  • Continue to recruit world-class industries to Alabama, diversifying our economy.
  • Cut through bureaucratic red-tape and offer tax incentives to help encourage entrepreneurship
  • Allocate a portion of Alabama’s economic development resources to encourage investment in renewable energy, decreasing our dependence on foreign resources and benefitting our own emerging companies

Improving Education

  • Get back to basics, teaching to learn, not to take a standardized test.
  • Eliminate government over-regulation and let our teachers teach.
  • Help all students read by supporting Alabama’s pre-K Initiative and the Alabama Reading Initiative.
  • Put school administrators and teachers back in control of the school and classroom and reward them for their success.
  • Utilize the internet and technology to create world-class educational opportunities.
  • Improve Alabama’s technical and vocational education system so all high school students can have hope in their future.
  • Implement the Rolling Reserve Budget Act to fund education, avoiding the negative impact on the education budget caused by downturns in the economy.

Fiscally Responsible Government

  • Government must learn to function as any family or business does in this economic climate by tightening their belt and learning to make do with less
  • We must focus on the budget and out of control spending to conserve our finances.
  • We must cut taxes by eliminating pork projects and government waste.
  • We should look at long standing earmarks to evaluate if they are still good ways to spend the taxpayers money.
  • Government and government spending must be open, honest and responsible.
  • The best economic stimulus is to let the taxpayers keep and spend more of their own hard-earned dollars.

Health Care Reform

  • Government run healthcare is not the answer and I will support any legislation that exempts Alabamians from being forced to purchase health insurance.
  • Utilizing the free-market our country was founded upon, we must look for innovative ways to reduce the cost of delivering health care to consumers in order to lessen the impact on health insurance premiums paid by Alabamians.
  • People who are either self employed and pay their pay their own health insurance premiums, or pay their own because their job does not provide it should be allowed full income tax deductions on those premiums.
  • We need to reduce the cost of health and medical services to stop the escalation of health insurance premiums.
  • According to the Congressional Budget Office, tort reform is one of the quickest ways to reduce health care cost. It’s time for Alabama to make some changes.

The Second Amendment and Gun Ownership

  • Firearms are used defensively 2.5 million times every year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. (source- SFA)
  • The 2nd Amendment guarantees Americans the right to own and bear arms. It is as treasured a right as the freedom of speech.
  • As your Representative I will do everything I can to protect this precious right.

Protecting Our Families

  • The safety of our families and homes cannot be emphasized enough.
  • We need to hire more police to arrest and punish criminals
  • Implement faith-based programs to identify and work with non-violent prisoners to help them become productive members of society and reduce the percentage of offenders who return to prison after release.

Alabama Sovereignty

  • The 10th Amendment in the US Constitution makes it clear that powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved to the individual states and to the people.
  • There’s no denying that the federal government continues to over-step their bounds through intrusive laws and over-reaching regulation.
  • As your representative, I promise to stand against the law-makers in DC who are passing laws, such as cap and trade and health care reform, which will damage the coal industry and healthcare industry- both vital parts of the Alabama economy.
